Default A new startup splash screen?

Probably just me nitpicking, ignore this if it's stupid

This is just a simple little idea; I'm sure you all know the Light Grey/ Dark Grey vertical line loading box that you get when you first start Guild Wars. it serves its purpose well, and I have no problem with it. However, it's a bit drab for a game as epic as GW, so I suggest this:

Change that loading screen to something more palatable. Sure, for the average person I'm sure it's only on for about 2-3 seconds (I found that out the hard way when I tried to make the concept picture.. so many loads trying to get a good screenshot........). But still, wouldn't it be nice? That loading screen has been on there for as long as I can remember, and I can't really imagine it being a marked improvment over what might have been there originally if it is the 'improved' version.

I whipped this up in about 40 minutes, I'm sure some of the graphics designers Anet has could do a much, much better job in half the time!

(ignore the badly done loading bar )

And I'm very sorry for any copyright issues I may have inadvertantly cuased in that picture...

It would be cool, but considering (unless your downloading updates) that it tends to only be onscreen for a split second, I wouldnt make it a priority.

The splash screen takes up about 1/1000th of the experience of GWs at the end of the day!

/signed as a nice idea
/not signed as something important

Oh, no, don't get me wrong on this. I definately say that this should take a low priority compared to more important updates (I.E. Auction House, Hair Dressers, GW:EotN...). However this is probably the simplist update they could ever do to the game. And I do realize for almost everyone, and that includes me, that that screen is only on for 1/10th of a second. (Unless your loading GW on a new computer like I did last month) and even then you just walk off, get a soda, eat a cookie, come back, and start loading all the new maps. And it's something to entertain the eyes if you choose to sit there for some strange reason.

One of the interesting facets of this that really has very little bearing on the subject at all is new players as well. When I first got Guild Wars, it was after a few weeks of prodding from a friend of mine who was an avid fan. I was sitting there, downloading the game files, looking at that screen, and I didn't really expect that much from the game just based on the quality of that image (kind of presumptuous of me, I know). I was shocked when I got to the login screen and saw that wonderful 3D map that is used. But it illustrates that first impressions are, albeit in a small way, important.

Back on topic though: I think it would be a nice change just based on asthetics. Even if you see that for only 1/10th of a second, it would still be a nice little touch. It would show off the care and the epicness (I wonder if that's a word) that the developers have put into the world of GW. And I really don't think it would take very much time to implement; I'm not a proffessional graphics designer, and I was able to make that image up there in about 30-50 minutes. After it's made it's just a matter of replacing the current vertical lines image in your GW file on your computer, which would be perhaps a 4 second download at the most, and 1/10000th of a second to install.

A nice idea, and as you said it's a great way to give a good impression to new players. And it is very simple

it would take no less than an hour to design, and MAYBE another hour to code... shouldn't be a problem at all.

The grey screen looks so...beta Prophecies. Normally as a GW veteran I love the old stuff, but this is going to make a bad impression on those people who hate GW and find the smallest little thing to complain about.

Hey, good idea. Make it rotate between 4-6 images with the different high poly model renders
